Wendell McKines registered a double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds as the New Mexico State Aggies defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, 83-73, in Western Athletic Conference play at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Also scoring in double figures for the Aggies (11-5, 1-0 WAC) were Hernst Laroche and Tyrone Watson with 14 points apiece, followed by Hamidu Rahman with 11 and six boards as NMSU won its third in a row and the sixth in the last seven outings. Daniel Mullings contributed eight points and 10 boards.
The Bulldogs (8-8, 0-1) were paced by Raheem Appleby with 19 points, Brandon Gibson tacked on 16 and seven boards, followed by Romario Souza with 10 points in the setback.
LaTech led by a basket early in the first half, but the hosts ended up shooting only 32.4 percent from the floor and 2-of-14 behind the three-point line, en route to a 40-34 deficit at the break.
In the second half NMSU put the game away with a sizzling 69.6 percent shooting from the floor.
The Aggies overcame 20 turnovers thanks to 57.1 percent accuracy from the field on the night.
